No wastewater treatment system is perfect anywhere, but they are necessary.
Because we all must flush or drain wastewater somewhere, we must plan for its treatment. Selecting the best form of wastewater treatment for the community and the receiving water body makes a very real difference in the water quality impacts:
- Septic systems release the highest concentration of pollutants
- Conventional treatment releases a moderate concentration
- MBR releases the lowest levels achievable with standard technology

Since everything that isn’t removed ultimately makes its way to downstream waters and the coast, the most responsible approach is simple: remove as much as possible before it gets there. That’s where advanced treatment like MBR makes a meaningful difference by significantly reducing what reaches our rivers, estuaries, and coastal waters.
